Grooming FAQ’s

Q: What does a grooming include?
A:
Basic grooming for your pet includes a bath, nail trim, expressing anal glands, cleaning ears and a thorough combing or brushing to remove as much loose hair as possible. Our experienced staff genuinely cares about making your pet look and feel its very best. Pets seem to know when they look and smell good, so don't be surprised to see them show you how fabulous they look and feel after a grooming here at Shelby Center Hospital for Animals!

Q: How often should my pet be groomed?
A:
Shampoos and conditioners today are very mild and gentle on skin and coats. Pets can be safely bathed as often as once a week. Many pet owners prefer to have their pets groomed weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. It is a personal choice. If your pet is not "becoming" to you, he should "be coming" to us! Call our groomers today to schedule your appointment.

Q: Do you groom pets by appointment only
A:
We want your pet to look and feel their very best. Therefore it is important that we schedule the time needed to meet your pet's individual needs. You can usually get a grooming appointment within a day or two or check with us in the mornings for last minute cancellations. We will be happy to work you in that day if time allows.

Medical FAQ’s

Q: What does it mean for my pet to be spayed or neutered?
A:
Spaying or neutering means that your pet will no longer be able to reproduce. There are numerous benefits to having your pet spayed or neutered at an early age and the procedure will not significantly alter his or her personality.

Q: At what age can my pet be spayed or neutered?
A:
Puppies and kittens can be spayed or neutered at 18-26 weeks of age.

Q: How long will my pet have to be in the hospital after being spayed or neutered?
A:
Routine spays and neuters can go home the same day of surgery. We recommend restricted activity for a few days and owners will need to watch for any licking or chewing at the surgical sites. Stitches are removed 10 days after surgery.
